Carle on his way back to Ankara

A pretty miserable tournament for Australia ended today with the Shielaroos going down 4-3 to Japan on penalties after extra time saw the scores equal on one each.

So let's have a look at our great record in a tournament that defender Lucas Neill had before hand predicted we would win without suffering a single loss.

Four played, one win, one draw and two losses.

Pathetic and I'm almost certain coach Graham Arnold will be replaced pretty damn quickly.

I tried to watch the match on Vietnamese state television but the reception was very bad indeed. In the end I followed a bit of it on a minute-by-minute report but that got boring and so instead decided to take Little Oz Kanka to the park.

So no report to give but I will mention that Genclerbirligi's Nick Carle finally got a bit of a run today. He came on in the 82nd minute and played through to the penalties where he scored from the spot. At least he got a bit of time on the pitch.

So pretty hopeless stuff and by the odd reports I've seen so far it looks like Japan deserved to win it, but at least Carle will now definitely be back for the start of Genclerbirligi's season.
