UNDERSTANDING OZ (but not Oz Kanka)

Greetings Kankas and Kankies.

I had a few titters at a recent letter sent into The Weekly Telegraph by a Mr Munns from Oz. I think he had a point to make and I think he made it very well !!!

QUOTE..... Being a sports fan and an avid follower of British football I often buy The Weekly Telegraph here in Oz. After absorbing the sports stuff in Issue 804, I read Charlotte Francis's Expat World article about not finding a proper carol service in Melbourne.

The trap that Pom visitors and immigrants occasionally fall into is that they have this notion that Australia is `England with sun`. It's not. Australia is a young and vibrant country that has its own culture, language (which we English understand) and customs.

Hopefully Charlotte will try to be a bit more understanding when she writes more articles on Australia ! UNQUOTE.

Yeah, well said mate. The English are infamous for under-estimating people from other countries !!!

On the subject of Oz, it's all happening there now. The Aussie have reclaimed the Ashes in dazzling style, their Rugby League and Union teams are difficult to crack open and let's not forget their impressive footie performance in the recent World Cup in Germany . I wouldn't bet against them being footie World Cup winners in the future !!

We will forget their prowess on the tennis court at the moment. Well....... unless Rod Laver or Ken Rosewall are planning come backs ??!!

C'mon you Aussies. G'day from Eski Kanka Jim
